MACHINE GUN KELLY
Machine Gun Kelly is a star! He even shines double as Tommy Lee in the new Netflix movie but also in the glossy pages of the Interview Spring-Summer Issue.
You can hear a heavy drum sound, see white smoke dissolve slowly and spotlights that suddenly flash into your face. It’s a rock show that gets your blood racing and feet moving. Netflix has turned its attention to exactly this show. The new movie coming out on the platform today is called ‚The Dirt’. It portrays the roaring sound and infamous story of rock band Mötley Crüe. From the steep rise of the musicians’ careers to private escapades – it’s sex, drugs and rock’n’roll at its finest.
‚The Dirt’ deals with the raw fame the band experienced but also with a lot of darkness: Tommy Lee who very publicly and turbulently dated Heather Locklear; Vince Neil who was involved in a deadly car accident. The movie is about making mistakes and growing from them – it’s about a new dawn.
Starring Iwan Rheon (known from Game of Thrones), Douglas Booth, Daniel Webber and Machine Gun Kelly. Kelly successfully impersonates the iconic drummer Tommy Lee and even got rid of his full body tattoos in a 2-hour daily procedure while shooting. The musician turned actor instead sports a fierce new look: skin-tight leopard pants and a long black wig.
Anyone who might want to get a glimpse into the glamourous Rock’n’Roll world can now also do that through the Interview lense. For the brand new spring summer print issue, Machine Gun Kelly was staged in the enchanted Hollywood Hills. He showed a more classical aspect of himself – vibing to early 70s music like Marvin Gaye. He talked to photographer Brad Elterman about survival and empowering himself.
Through this project, we at Interview also found that sometimes things just don’t work out the way you planned: The recording of the conversation was damaged. Shock! But nothing easier than that, since the photographer Brad Elterman was happy to recreate his side of the story. Read for yourself and get the new Interview Issue as print or online download here.
